In a thrilling matchup at Oriole Park, the Baltimore Orioles edged out the New York Mets 4-3 Tuesday night. The victory keeps the Orioles within striking distance of the first-place New York Yankees.
The Mets struck first in the top of the fifth, but the Orioles quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Mets.
Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander's RBI single in the sixth put Baltimore ahead 3-1. The Mets tied it up in the eighth, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
Rookie Gunnar Henderson stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the eighth and launched a solo home run to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead. Dillon Tate then closed out the game in the ninth for his 16th save.
