Man City Vs

City not counting on last year's Real Madrid result

Rodri: "We understand the difficulty of facing Real Madrid"

Manchester City may have swept Real Madrid aside in last year's semi-finals by an aggregate score of 5-1, but Rodri isn't counting on that result to help his team in this year's last-16 tie.

First-half goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland put City in control of the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, but Rodri knows that Real Madrid are a dangerous team, especially at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"We understand the difficulty of facing Real Madrid," Rodri said. "They are a great team with a lot of experience in this competition. We will need to be at our best to get a result in the second leg."

Rodri got the only goal of the game in the second half, while Ederson pulled off two stunning saves to deny Real Madrid a crucial away goal.

"It was a good performance from us," Rodri said. "We created a lot of chances and we could have scored more goals. But we are happy with the win and we are confident going into the second leg."
