Arlene Golonka, Mayberry RFD and Sitcom Veteran, Dies at 85

Actress Known for Millie Hutchins Role Remembered for Bubbly Spirit on and Off Screen

Arlene Golonka, the actress best known for playing Millie Hutchins on Mayberry RFD and The Andy Griffith Show, has died. She was 85.

Golonka's death was confirmed by her family, who said she passed away on May 31st, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. No cause of death was given.

Golonka was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 23, 1936. She began her career as a stage actress in New York City, where she appeared in several Broadway shows before landing the role of Millie Hutchins on Mayberry RFD in 1968.

Golonka played Millie for six seasons on Mayberry RFD and later appeared in several episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. She also had roles in other television shows, including The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Murder, She Wrote.

In addition to her television work, Golonka also appeared in several films, including The Fortune Cookie (1966), The Producers (1968), and Bananas (1971).

Golonka was known for her bubbly personality and infectious laugh. She was a beloved figure on the Mayberry RFD set and remained close with her castmates after the show ended.

Golonka is survived by her two daughters, Sarah and Amy, and her two grandchildren, Lily and Jack.
